Immigration agents in the US have been involved in a series of 26 shootings since the beginning of President Donald Trump’s second term in January 2025. The latest incident, captured in a disturbing video, took place in Minneapolis, marking the 11th shooting involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents since the start of the year.
The video footage shared online depicted ICE agents shooting at an unarmed individual while attempting to subdue them near Glam Doll Donuts in Minneapolis. This incident is part of a compilation of reported cases involving ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), revealing a total of 26 shootings, with six resulting in fatalities.
These shootings have occurred across 15 states and the District of Columbia during various encounters such as traffic stops, arrest operations, border enforcement activities, and off-duty incidents. Notably, an analysis by The Wall Street Journal highlighted instances where officers fired at moving vehicles, resulting in injuries and fatalities, including cases involving US citizens.
Fatal incidents, such as the shooting of a Mexican man in Texas and an off-duty ICE agent killing a Black father in Los Angeles, have sparked controversy and public outrage. Moreover, protests erupted following the shooting of a man from Venezuela by an ICE agent in North Minneapolis, leading to confrontations between demonstrators and federal security forces.
The shootings have raised concerns about the use of force by immigration agencies, with some incidents involving claims of self-defense or suspects attempting to flee in vehicles. Despite differing narratives between authorities and witnesses in these cases, the shootings continue to draw scrutiny and calls for accountability.
These incidents shed light on the complex and contentious interactions between immigration enforcement agents and individuals, prompting a closer examination of policies and practices within federal immigration agencies.
