“40 Years Later: New Push to Solve Double Axe Murder Case”

Date:

An individual previously acquitted of the double axe murder of a couple in their bed has expressed a desire for the true perpetrator to be brought to justice, according to one of the victims’ stepsons.

Brian Price, 43, and Susan Tetrault, 36, were discovered naked and brutally murdered in what appeared to be a gang-related incident in Clapham, South London, on July 13, 1986. Despite convicted bank robber Dean Alexander being cleared of their murders at the Old Bailey, the case has resurfaced.

Ray, 66, Brian’s stepson, collaborated with criminologist Dr. Kirsty Bennett to compile an extensive 82-page report on the case. This dossier was recently presented to the Metropolitan Police on the 40th anniversary of the unsolved homicides with the hope of prompting a reopening of the investigation.

Ray emphasized the significance of the evidence gathered and urged the Metropolitan Police to utilize any available forensic data to potentially solve the case and hold the responsible party accountable.

The case remained dormant for 37 years under the presumption that it was resolved after a suspect was charged. Ray is advocating for a change in protocol so that murder cases involving acquitted defendants are subject to periodic reevaluation by cold case investigators.

Recent developments indicate that the Metropolitan Police are reexamining the murders of Brian and Susan, with forensic items being submitted for further testing.

Ray, a retired fire training consultant from Birmingham, invested 13 years investigating the case and located Alexander, who has since changed his identity and now leads a counter surveillance company catering to governmental and corporate clients.

Despite denying any involvement in the murders, Alexander declined to meet with Ray to discuss the case. Messages exchanged between the two individuals suggest differing perspectives on the situation.

Brian and Susan were viciously killed with an axe from Susan’s wood-chopping collection in her flat. The couple, who were heavily mutilated and unrecognizable, had to be identified through their fingerprints.

Brian, a prominent drug trafficker, and Alexander, a convicted robber, were speculated to have conspired with a Cypriot gangster to smuggle heroin from Turkey. However, the venture failed, leading to their return from Cyprus shortly before the tragic murders.

During the investigation, Alexander admitted to being at Susan’s flat on the night of the killings but claimed to have left to visit his girlfriend. Nevertheless, incriminating evidence linking him to the crime was discovered at his residence, including Brian’s belongings and a significant amount of cash belonging to the deceased.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that they are reviewing information provided by a family member of Brian Price and have submitted evidence for further forensic evaluation as part of their ongoing case review initiated in 2023.
