A British toddler named Cheryl Grimmer went missing 55 years ago while her family was at the beach in Australia. Cheryl, aged three, disappeared on January 12, 1970, during a day out with her mother and brothers. Despite the efforts to find her, she was never located.
The Grimmer family had relocated from Bristol to Australia seeking a new beginning in 1968. The day Cheryl vanished seemed ordinary until her older brother, Ricki, noticed she hadn’t come out of the shower cubicle. By the time their mother, Carole, arrived, Cheryl was gone, sparking panic and a frantic search.
Witnesses reported seeing a man with Cheryl before her disappearance, but the police couldn’t definitively identify any suspects. A local teenager, known as Mercury, confessed to the murder in the early 1970s but wasn’t charged due to insufficient evidence. The case was reopened in 2016, leading to Mercury’s arrest, but the trial was dismissed later on.
Recently, Australian parliament member Jeremy Buckingham revealed Mercury’s real name and called for a fresh inquiry into Cheryl’s murder. Cheryl’s family, who have endured decades of uncertainty, demanded answers from Mercury. Despite the family’s persistence, Cheryl’s fate remains unresolved, leaving her loved ones haunted by the tragedy.
