London Fire Brigade (LFB) has deployed eight fire engines and approximately 60 firefighters to respond to a fire in Catford, according to the service’s evening statement. Emergency teams swiftly arrived at the fire location on Rushey Green in Lewisham, as reported by LFB at 7:40 pm. The scene footage depicts flames emerging from the roof of a sizable building, with fire personnel present. Councillor James J Walsh, representing Rushey Green, shared a video on Facebook confirming an ongoing fire incident at The Rushey Green Nursery.
LFB’s official statement confirms the activation of eight fire engines and 60 firefighters to address the fire at the three-story nursery where a section of the roof is on fire. The Brigade received the initial call at 6:37 pm and dispatched fire crews from multiple stations to the site, including Bromley, East Greenwich, and Peckham. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this point.
In a subsequent update, LFB reiterated that firefighters are actively combating the blaze at the nursery where the roof is ablaze. The Rushey Green Nursery offers child care services for infants aged 6 months to 5 years, as outlined on its Facebook page. A follow-up notice advised residents to keep windows and doors closed due to heavy smoke, while drivers were cautioned to avoid the area due to road closures during fire containment efforts.
