A family is mourning the tragic loss of a nine-year-old boy who was fatally struck by a falling tree shortly after his birthday. Zakaria Bel Qaid, a young skier, tragically lost his life in a freak accident at his school in Winthrop, Massachusetts. Zakaria’s family shared the heartbreaking news on an Instagram account dedicated to showcasing his skiing talents, emphasizing his joyful moments spent with loved ones.
According to witness Nancy Clover, the incident occurred after school when a tree toppled over while children were playing outside. Zakaria, described as a loving and adventurous boy by his family, had a deep passion for skiing and had recently celebrated his ninth birthday. The Melrose School Committee confirmed that two other individuals injured in the incident have been treated and released from hospitals.
