In contrast, singer and activist Billy Bragg voiced his dissent towards Mr. Trump’s visit in a passionate social media post. Bragg promoted a ‘Trump Not Welcome’ demonstration at London’s Portland Place before the President’s arrival.
Amid President Trump’s lunch with members of the royal family, Bragg, born in Essex, labeled the state visit as a “national humiliation” and cautioned against appeasing bullies.
Bragg urged his followers to reject the “Trumpification” of UK politics and join him at the Stop Trump rally in Parliament Square, where he performed protest songs like Hundred Year Hunger.
The rally featured various speakers, with attendees confined to Parliament Square and Whitehall due to public order conditions.
Simultaneously, Channel 4 criticized President Trump, vowing to expose his alleged “untruths” during the State Visit. Ian Katz, chief content officer at Channel 4, announced special coverage highlighting what they considered a plethora of falsehoods by the President.
The program, titled “Trump V The Truth,” aimed to showcase President Trump’s alleged 100 falsehoods, distortions, and inaccuracies since taking office. This initiative by Channel 4 sought to shed light on the importance of truth in a time of powerful misinformation.
