“Woman Killed in Welsh Drug Faction Conflict”

Date:

In a tragic incident on a Welsh housing estate, a woman lost her life due to mistaken identity in the midst of a conflict between rival drug factions, as detailed in court.

The victim, Joanne Penney, aged 40, was visiting a friend’s residence when a shooter targeted the doorstep. It is believed that the intended victim was the woman Joanne was staying with, who opened the door to the assailant.

This tragic incident occurred on March 9 this year at a flat in Talbot Green, Rhondda Cynon Taf, with emergency services responding just before 6 pm.

Despite efforts by medics, Joanne Penney succumbed to her injuries at the scene. None of her four children were present during the incident.

Facing trial at Cardiff Crown Court for her murder are Marcus Huntley, Kristina Ginova, Joshua Gordon, Melissa Quailey-Dashper, Tony Porter, and Jordan Mills-Smith, all denying the accusations.

Prosecutor Jonathan Rees KC informed the jury that the shooting was believed to be linked to a clash between two rival drug syndicates in the region. The court was told that the conflict arose from the activities of two organized crime groups.

The prosecution detailed that one group, known as the Rico OCG and led by Joshua Gordon, was expanding its operations to South Wales, encroaching on the territory of a rival faction led by Daniel ‘Jimmy’ Joseph.

On the fatal evening, members of the accused group were present near the victim’s location. While some remained in a vehicle, others approached the flat where the incident occurred.

The court was informed that the prosecution alleges collective responsibility for the murder, emphasizing the roles played by each of the defendants in the tragic event.

Friends of the victim suspect that the actual target was the woman Joanne was residing with, due to similarities in appearance. The trial is ongoing.
