Two individuals have been apprehended in connection with the recent theft of eight valuable crown jewels from the renowned Louvre Museum in France. Reports indicate that one suspect was intercepted at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport while attempting to flee to Algeria after the meticulously planned heist. The Louvre was placed on lockdown following the audacious robbery, where a group of thieves, disguised in high-visibility attire, utilized a mechanical ladder mounted on a truck to access a first-floor balcony. They then broke into the Galerie d’Apollon using power tools before making their escape on scooters. President Emmanuel Macron vowed to capture the culprits and recover the stolen items.
Authorities disclosed that over 150 DNA traces, including fingerprints, were left behind by the burglars at the crime scene. Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau stated that forensic teams are actively analyzing these samples to identify the four perpetrators swiftly. The investigators are optimistic about apprehending the criminals, suggesting that if they have prior criminal records, their DNA should already be on file. The traces were found on a stolen truck, as well as on abandoned gear like a crash helmet and glove.
The prosecutor emphasized the urgency of arresting the thieves to retrieve the jewelry before any potential tampering occurs. The Louvre, a top tourist destination attracting millions of visitors annually, witnessed the daring heist that has captured international attention. It is believed that those involved in stealing historical artifacts often operate under the instructions of dealers who struggle to offload the items on the black market.
