A tragic incident unfolded as a young woman passed away due to medical negligence where doctors reportedly left a surgical bandage inside her abdomen following a Caesarean section for childbirth. Jyoti Pal, a 26-year-old, gave birth to her son in January at a private hospital. However, shortly after the procedure, she started experiencing severe abdominal pain, prompting her return to the hospital for investigation.
Despite efforts to diagnose her condition, doctors initially could not identify the source of her distress, leading to a worsening state. Upon seeking treatment at another hospital, medical professionals discovered the forgotten bandage causing a severe infection. Despite receiving medical attention, Jyoti succumbed to the illness.
In response to this tragedy, Jyoti’s husband, Prajjwal, has lodged a complaint against the hospital in Dehradun, India, where the birth took place, and the medical team involved in the surgery. Authorities in the city have initiated an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Jyoti’s death, with the Chief Medical Officer confirming the launch of the investigation following the tragic incident.
The investigation, as detailed by officials, aims to uncover any potential negligence on the part of the hospital and medical staff. The hospital, which has temporarily closed for the inquiry, is under scrutiny to determine the causes that led to this unfortunate outcome. A dedicated committee led by the Chief Medical Officer will delve into the specifics of the case and is awaiting the post-mortem report to shed light on the events surrounding Jyoti’s passing.
