Teenage Boy Set on Fire in Horrific Attack; Family Reveals Extent of Injuries

Date:

The family of a teenage boy who was reportedly attacked with petrol and set on fire has disclosed the severe extent of his injuries. On Monday, October 13, around 6pm local time, Jacob Thompson, 19, was ambushed by a man and two women while walking on Cowper Street in Coonabarabran, Australia. According to reports, one of the assailants poured a liquid on Jacob, causing him to catch fire. Bystanders managed to put out the flames before Jacob was rushed to the hospital.

Jacob’s family has shared that he suffered burns covering 32% of his body, including extensive third-degree burns on his face, torso, arms, back, and legs. Due to the critical nature of his injuries and the impact on his airways, Jacob was airlifted to Sydney, where he was placed in a medically induced coma on life support.

Currently, Jacob is receiving intensive care at Concord Hospital in Sydney, with his family providing constant support by his side. The family described the incident as deeply traumatic, leaving lasting physical and emotional scars that will require a lengthy healing process.

Authorities have confirmed the arrest of a 45-year-old woman, a 19-year-old man, and a 17-year-old girl in connection with the attack. The man faces charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and affray, while the woman has been charged with affray. They have been remanded in custody, with the teenage girl released pending further investigations.

To aid the family in their relocation and support Mr. Thompson during his recovery, a GoFundMe campaign has been initiated. A message on the fundraising page expresses gratitude for any contributions, emphasizing that every donation, regardless of size, will assist Jacob and his family in rebuilding their lives.
