A tragic incident unfolded as a police detective and mother of three passed away just one week after undergoing buttock lift and liposuction procedures. Alicia Stone, aged 40 and a veteran of the New York Police Department (NYPD), was discovered unresponsive in her hotel room and swiftly taken to Fundación Valle del Lili Hospital in Colombia.
Despite being admitted for medical care, Alicia, who had served for 13 years in the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau, was declared deceased within an hour, according to sources. The cause of her death was listed as “unspecified cardiac arrest.” Her husband, Michael, is requesting an inquiry into his wife’s sudden passing, expressing doubts about the circumstances surrounding it.
Prior to her hospitalization, the mother of three had undergone a gluteal fat transfer and liposuction, and was on anticoagulants and pain medication as per reports from the New York Daily News. Michael recounted receiving a distressing call from a doctor in Colombia informing him of his wife’s death, leaving him in shock and seeking answers.
Michael emphasized that Alicia was in good health before the surgery and felt fine the day before her unexpected death. He stressed the need for clarity on what transpired. A fundraising initiative established to assist Alicia’s family highlighted her as a devoted public servant and loving mother, remembered for her kindness and dedication to others.
A study featured in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal in 2017 revealed that buttock enhancement procedures could pose significantly higher risks compared to other cosmetic surgeries in the US. Globally, the fatality rate after such procedures is estimated at one in 3,448 patients, a substantially higher rate than the general US fatality rate of approximately one in 55,000 from cosmetic surgeries.
