A small aircraft has crashed in the coastal area of Kwale, Kenya, resulting in the potential loss of 12 lives, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred today as the plane was en route to the Maasai Mara National Reserve, crashing in a hilly location approximately 25 miles from the Diani airstrip, as confirmed by officials.
Stephen Orinde, the Kwale County Commissioner, mentioned that all individuals on board were foreign tourists, with their nationalities awaiting official confirmation. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
The distinction between crew members and passengers remains unclear at this moment. The aircraft reportedly went down shortly after takeoff, igniting a fire that resulted in a charred wreckage. Witnesses reported hearing a loud noise and encountering unidentifiable human remains at the crash site.
According to Mombasa Air Safari, the airline involved, they are working closely with aviation authorities to provide updates as the investigation progresses.
