A woman accused of stalking the parents of Madeleine McCann has claimed that Kate McCann withheld information from the police. Julia Wandelt, a 24-year-old from Poland, is facing trial for allegedly pretending to be Madeleine McCann. During her testimony, Wandelt became emotional, insisting she had done nothing wrong and questioning her presence in court.
The prosecution alleges that Wandelt harassed the McCanns through emails, calls, voicemails, and visits to their home. Wandelt raised suspicions about Kate McCann’s silence regarding their interactions, suggesting that crucial details were being concealed. She expressed disbelief that the McCanns did not respond to her attempts to contact them, speculating that they may have been threatened into silence.
Wandelt admitted to sending a message to Kate McCann accusing her of corruption and not genuinely wanting to find Madeleine. She attributed these remarks to her emotional state and feeling ignored by everyone. Despite regretting her harsh words, she explained that her actions stemmed from frustration and emotional distress.
In court, it was revealed that Wandelt had intervened when a visitor, Karen Spragg, displayed aggressive behavior towards Kate McCann. Wandelt acknowledged the tense situation and admitted to perceiving Spragg’s actions as intimidating given Mrs. McCann’s circumstances.
Regarding financial offers for a DNA test, Wandelt clarified that she intended to use the results for legal purposes in family court. She expressed her motive for coming to the UK as seeking justice through legal action based on the DNA comparison.
Wandelt and her co-defendant, Karen Spragg, both deny the charge of stalking. The trial is ongoing.
