The parents of a British woman, Greta Marie Otteson, 33, and her South African fiancé, Arno Els Quinton, 36, tragically discovered that they inadvertently purchased toxic limoncello that led to their untimely deaths. The couple was found deceased in a Vietnamese villa in Hoi An on Boxing Day last year, after consuming the contaminated drink three days prior. Authorities determined that both victims succumbed to methanol poisoning, likely caused by the tainted limoncello.
Following the investigation, the barman responsible for concocting the lethal drink was arrested in February and remains in custody as inquiries progress. Greta’s parents, Paul, 71, and Susan, 70, who were in Vietnam in November, rented a villa for vacationers and unknowingly bought the toxic drink during their visit. They shared a meal at Good Morning Vietnam and had limoncello shots, later ordering bottles as a Christmas gift for the couple.
Upon returning to their villa on Christmas Eve, Greta and Arno found two bottles of limoncello left for them at the reception desk by a different restaurant. Greta experienced severe symptoms like a severe hangover and visual disturbances, eventually leading to their tragic demise, discovered by a cleaner three days later.
