A wolf attacked a young girl at a tourist spot in Greece. The incident occurred in Neos Marmaras, Halkidiki peninsula, while the five-year-old was on vacation with her family. Fortunately, the child’s mother intervened, scaring off the wolf before serious harm was done.
The girl, a Serbian national, suffered bites and scratches on her back and leg during the assault, which took place last Friday morning while she was playing on the beach. She received medical treatment at a health center and was later discharged from the hospital as a precaution.
Authorities are now searching for the wolf, which a wildlife organization believes has developed an unusual relationship with humans. The organization’s spokesperson, Iason Bantios from Callisto, noted that such familiarity between wolves and humans is uncommon.
Surveillance cameras have been installed in the area to locate the wolf. The region is known to be inhabited by wolves and jackals, prompting warnings for people to be cautious, especially with dogs and children, in the vicinity of Neos Marmaras.
Efforts are underway to track the wolf’s movements, with drones monitoring the area at night and traps being planned to capture the animal. The Deputy Mayor of Sithonia, Athanasios Mallinis, stated that this is the first recorded wolf attack on a human in Greece, as previous incidents involved attacks on animals.
This incident follows a recent attack in the Netherlands where a six-year-old child was dragged into the woods by a wolf. The child sustained severe bite wounds but was rescued by bystanders who fought off the animal.
The wolf involved in the Greek attack is identified by the code GW3237m, with the nickname Bram, and is linked to previous aggressive encounters, including biting a girl and knocking over a toddler.
