“Expert Reveals Ideal Home Heating Temp to Prevent Mold”

Date:

An expert in energy has shared the specific temperature at which you should heat your home to prevent mold growth.

Mold is a common issue that can lead to severe health problems if not addressed promptly. It thrives in environments with high moisture levels and often manifests on walls and ceilings.

To combat mold growth in your home, Ben Gallizzi, an energy specialist at Uswitch.com, recommends maintaining a temperature range to deter mold spores.

According to Gallizzi’s advice to The Sun, keeping your home warm can effectively prevent mold buildup during the coldest months. The Energy Saving Trust suggests maintaining a temperature between 18 and 21 degrees Celsius for individuals in good health.

Additionally, it is crucial to ensure that the temperature in your home does not fall below 15 degrees Celsius to prevent condensation, which occurs when warm air comes into contact with cold surfaces.

As winter approaches, energy bills are anticipated to increase once again. The Ofgem price cap for a standard dual fuel household paying via direct debit will rise from £1,720 to £1,755, effective from October 1 until December 31. This cap applies to consumers on a standard variable rate tariff.

While there is a cap on the maximum charges for gas and electricity units, the total bill amount is determined by the actual energy consumption. The standing charges, fixed daily fees for energy connection, are also regulated under the Ofgem price cap.

Electricity unit rates are set to rise, with the average unit rate increasing from 25.73p to 26.35p per kilowatt-hour, along with a rise in the standing charge from 51.37p to 53.68p per day. Conversely, gas unit rates are decreasing from 6.33p to 6.29p per kilowatt-hour, while the standing charge is increasing from 29.82p to 34.03p per day.

The price cap serves as an estimate of the annual energy expenses for a typical household based on Ofgem’s consumption estimations. Ofgem assumes an average consumption of 2,700 kWh of electricity and 11,500 kWh of gas per year. Regional variations can also impact energy costs due to differing unit rates.

Distinct rates apply to prepayment customers and those who pay upon receiving the bill.
