A resourceful individual recently shared her experience of traveling to three countries in a day for a total of £33 without taking a flight.
Chyna Brown, hailing from Hampshire, embarked on a solo journey from London to Basel, Switzerland. Leveraging Basel’s unique location, she seamlessly crossed into Germany and France within the same day.
The 23-year-old’s trip commenced with a one hour and 40-minute flight from London Gatwick to Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg. Upon arrival, she purchased a tram ticket for just 10.70 CHF (£9.93) and spent May 30 immersing herself in the cultural offerings of all three nations.
She began by exploring the Rhine in Switzerland, followed by a brief 12-minute tram ride to Weil am Rhein Dreiländerbrücke in Germany. There, she marveled at the Three Countries Bridge, which provided panoramic views of each country.
Transitioning to Huningue in France, Chyna savored the offerings of charming French bistros, including escargot. Her total expenditure for the day amounted to a thrifty £33.17, and she found the city to be exceptionally pedestrian-friendly.
Chyna, who functions as a social media manager, shared her motivation for the trip, explaining, “I flew into Basel Airport, situated in France, although my stay was in Switzerland. Discovering this excursion on TikTok and various online platforms piqued my interest as a fun and immersive way to encounter diverse cultures.”
During her stay in Basel, she utilized TrustedHousesitters, an application connecting individuals with global house and pet sitters, ensuring she did not incur accommodation costs during her inaugural solo expedition.
Her day’s activities included exploring Switzerland’s retail quarter, town hall, and historic center, with highlights such as strolling along the Rhine river and visiting the Three Countries Bridge connecting Germany, Switzerland, and France.
Chyna wrapped up her day back at her lodging by 6:30 pm, having enjoyed a fulfilling and cost-effective multi-country experience.
