“Sky Moves Away from Sky Q, Embraces Streaming Future”

Date:

Sky has recently announced a significant change that indicates a shift in TV viewing habits for the future and potentially marks the decline of traditional satellite dishes. The company has officially stopped selling its Sky Q set-top box online, steering new customers towards Sky Stream or Sky Glass TVs instead.

The message from the company states, “We’ve unplugged Sky Q. Plug in Sky Stream for less. Sky Q is no longer available to buy online.” Customers looking to purchase Sky Q will now be prompted to consider the more affordable Stream box option, with Sky promoting, “You can take your viewing to the next level with Sky Stream starting from £15 a month.”

The transition is driven by the benefits of Sky Stream and Sky Glass, which deliver live and on-demand content over the internet rather than through a traditional satellite signal. These options offer quick setup, eliminate the need for a technician to visit and make installations, and receive more frequent updates and new features. Opting for a basic Sky Stream package is also notably cheaper than Sky Q, with prices starting at just £15 a month.

The move away from Sky Q has been anticipated, as the company has been focusing more on streaming-based solutions due to the preference of most new customers. However, Sky Q remains a popular choice for millions of households, and existing users will not be affected by the online sales change. Sky Q can still be purchased by contacting Sky directly or visiting retail stores.

Sky clarified, “Sky Q is no longer available to buy online, but customers can call us if they’d like to order Sky Q, or visit one of our retail stores. Alternatively, they can choose from our popular streaming products, Sky Glass and Sky Stream, which are selected by 9 out of 10 of our new customers.”

While Sky Q is not becoming obsolete yet, the trend towards a streaming-centric future is gaining momentum.
