Joe Cullen has taken to social media to heavily criticize Mensur Suljovic, accusing the experienced darts player of being a ‘cheat.’ The player from Bradford faced a disappointing loss to the Austrian during a tense second-round match at the World Darts Championship.
Suljovic made a remarkable comeback after losing the first set, ultimately defeating the Englishman 3-1 at Alexandra Palace. Throughout the game, Cullen was visibly impatient, frequently checking his watch and quietly urging Suljovic to speed up his throws at the oche.
Known for his slower pace compared to other players, Suljovic’s deliberate style and prolonged celebrations increasingly irritated Cullen, leading to tension between the two during and after the match. Following their game, Cullen confronted Suljovic with strong words, to which the Austrian responded with laughter.
As Cullen exited the stage, he paused, turned back, and glared at Suljovic, who was enjoying the moment with the audience. Cullen later vented his frustration on social media, expressing his disapproval of Suljovic’s behavior on the board.
In response to Cullen’s outburst and questions about his slow play during a post-match interview, Suljovic appeared puzzled. He stated that he had never personally apologized to Cullen and defended his playing style, emphasizing that every player has their own approach to the game.
When asked further about the incident, Suljovic expressed confusion about Cullen’s grievances and defended his actions on the stage, highlighting that he plays the game in his unique way, which includes his celebrations and gestures.
Looking ahead, Suljovic may face defending world champion Luke Littler in the next round. Littler, who is only 18 years old, is set to compete against darts player and NHS area manager David Davies in the upcoming match.
