In preparation for the holiday season and ahead of the upcoming busy travel period, British Airways has revealed a significant change that will have an impact on its loyal clientele.
The airline has officially announced that starting on Monday, December 15, 2025, there will be an increase in the pricing of Reward Flights, affecting both the Avios points and cash components of the fare. Reward Flights are flights booked using Avios points.
This increase will apply to all British Airways flights and their partner airlines. British Airways attributed the price adjustments to rising Air Passenger Duty, third-party charges, and ongoing inflation.
British Airways has provided specific examples of the price adjustments on its platform. For instance, an off-peak round trip from London to New York currently requires a certain amount of Avios points, but as of December 15, travelers can expect this to rise by up to 14,000 Avios.
Another example shared by BA is an off-peak one-way flight from London to Geneva, with the Avios points required for this route set to increase following the implementation of the changes.
The airline communicated these alterations via an email sent to customers on Wednesday, December 3. In their statement, British Airways noted that factors such as Air Passenger Duty, heightened third-party charges, market fluctuations, and inflation compelled them to adjust their pricing. They emphasized that they provided ample notice to assist customers in planning accordingly.
For individuals with existing bookings who wish to make changes, British Airways clarified that if modifications are made before December 15, the current rates will be honored. Additionally, changes made after December 15 to the time or date of the flight, within the same seasonality and destination, will not incur additional Avios charges.
