“Female Prison Officer Accused of Inmate Romances and Drug Smuggling”

Date:

A court has been informed that a female prison officer engaged in “intimate relationships” with inmates and smuggled drugs into a jail. Kayleigh Robson, 29, allegedly developed inappropriate romances with prisoners at HMP Peterborough over a nine-month period. Additionally, she is accused of smuggling cannabis and tobacco into the Category B privately-operated prison and being part of a suspected money laundering scheme.

Robson, hailing from Grantham, Lincs, pleaded not guilty to all charges. During a brief hearing, the mother-of-one only confirmed her name, date of birth, and pleas.

The allegations suggest that between June 1, 2020, and February 28, 2021, Robson “wilfully misconducted herself” in public office by engaging in intimate relationships with prisoners. Furthermore, between July 23, 2020, and April 19, 2021, she purportedly conspired with others to introduce cannabis and tobacco into the prison and participated in an alleged money laundering setup involving bank transfers.

The detailed misconduct charge accuses Robson of abusing the public’s trust while acting as a public officer by having intimate relationships with prisoners at Peterborough.

Robson and three male co-defendants appeared in court, with two others scheduled for later proceedings. Adam Hussain, 28, Ashley Neal, 30, and Roy Shalliker, 67, denied conspiring to bring contraband into HMP Peterborough. Hussain and Neal also refuted the money laundering accusation.

The defendants were granted bail, and a two-week trial is planned for April 2027 at Huntingdon Crown Court. Judge Philip Grey acknowledged the significant court backlog and emphasized the consequences of failing to attend the trial, including the issuance of arrest warrants and potential trial proceedings in the absence of the defendants. He advised the defendants to stay in contact with their solicitors and ensure their presence at the court on April 19 next year.
