A popular men’s fashion brand in the UK has stopped operating due to going into administration.
Great Clothing Ltd, trading as Big Boys, specialized in providing plus-size clothing for men, offering sizes ranging from 2XL to 10XL. The store was based in Leeds and had an average of 12 employees in 2025.
Chris Brooksbank from CB Business Recovery Ltd has been appointed as the administrator. A statement on the Big Boys website explains that despite efforts to tackle financial challenges, the company could not sustain its operations.
An insolvency firm has been engaged to manage the company’s affairs, with their licensed Insolvency Practitioner soon to be appointed as the administrator.
In other retail news, River Island is set to close at least 27 stores this month as part of a restructuring plan. Several locations, including branches in Brighton, Edinburgh Princes Street, Great Yarmouth, and Stockton-on-Tees, have already shut down.
Additional stores, such as those in Norwich, Norfolk, and Workington, Cumbria, are also slated for closure, although specific dates have not been confirmed. River Island is also renegotiating rents at 71 other stores as part of its restructuring efforts.
Poundland is also undergoing changes, with plans to close 12 stores in January following a High Court approval. The discount retailer had previously sold 57 stores by the end of September after being acquired by investment firm Gordon Brothers for a nominal fee.
Poundland, which had around 800 branches last summer, anticipates reducing its store count to approximately 650 to 700 through closures and natural lease expirations. The company is introducing a new pricing structure of £1, £2, and £3 for its products, with the majority priced at £1. Additionally, Poundland has updated its website to focus on product browsing only, discontinuing online purchases.
