Homes seeking TV entertainment without a monthly subscription now have increased choices. Initially introduced in 2024, Freely offered live channel access through a broadband connection, initially limited to select new TVs. However, in the past 18 months, more TV brands like Hisense, Toshiba, and Sharp have integrated Freely into their screens. Previously, viewers had to purchase a new television to access live and on-demand content via the Freely platform.
Recently, Manhattan’s technology team unveiled a new Freely-powered set-top box named Aero 4K, enabling any existing TV in a household to access over 60 live channels and on-demand content for free, without requiring a costly subscription. The Aero 4K device also features voice search, personalized viewing recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, and the ability to pause live content. Subscribers to services like Disney+ and Netflix can access these apps through the box as well.
Priced at £69.99, the Aero 4K has gained popularity among consumers. Currys is the first retailer in the UK to offer the Manhattan Aero 4K, which quickly sold out upon release. The device is expected to be restocked soon, with interested buyers able to sign up for email alerts on the Currys website. Other retailers, including Amazon and John Lewis, are also anticipated to start selling the Aero 4K shortly.
Once back in stock, the Aero 4K will compete with devices like Virgin’s Stream box and Sky Stream, all eliminating the need for traditional aerial or dish installations by delivering shows, sports, and movies over the internet. Transitioning to streaming offers advantages such as easier installation without requiring a technician visit and regular software updates.
The TV industry is evolving rapidly, with Freely reporting over a million users and predicting continued growth as more viewers shift from traditional viewing methods to streaming alternatives.
