US President Donald Trump made an appearance at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, where he received a mixed reaction of cheers and jeers from the crowd as he settled in to watch the 2026 CFB national championship game.
Trump was in Miami to witness the Miami Hurricanes face off against the Indiana Hoosiers in the 2026 CFP national championship on Monday, January 19.
During the playing of the national anthem and Trump’s appearance on the stadium’s big screen, a mix of cheers and boos resonated throughout the venue, according to reports from the Express.
The game featured a showdown between the top-ranked Indiana team and the tenth-ranked Miami squad competing for the national title in Miami, Florida. The White House confirmed President Trump’s presence at the game, where he was accompanied by Marco Rubio, the current Secretary of State and former senator from Florida.
Trump’s attendance at the event was part of his schedule for Martin Luther King Day, marking his third College Football Playoff (CFB) national championship game appearance. Previously, he had attended the 2018 Alabama Georgia game and the 2020 Clemson LSU match-up.
While the spectators were primarily focused on the game, viewers from the US and around the world were also tuning in with keen interest in the US President, who has been engaging in diplomatic disputes with European leaders over sanctions and his pursuit to acquire Greenland.
The match took place shortly after an NBA game in London where a spectator protested against Trump’s Greenland-related actions during the US national anthem, drawing applause from the crowd.
