Snooker legend John Virgo’s passing has been attributed to a ruptured aorta, as disclosed following the sad news of his sudden death at the age of 79. Virgo, renowned for his prowess in the 1970s and 1980s, achieved a significant milestone by clinching the 1979 UK Championship title and reaching the semi-finals of the World Championship in the same year.

While his sporting achievements were notable, Virgo gained widespread recognition in the 1990s for co-hosting the popular television show Big Break alongside comedian Jim Davidson. Known as the voice of snooker, Virgo also had a successful career as a commentator on BBC, where his famous catchphrase “where’s the cue ball going?” became a trademark of his broadcasting style.

Virgo, who resided in Spain with his wife Rosie, received heartfelt tributes from his loved ones and colleagues after his passing. His wife Rosie expressed deep sorrow, highlighting their close bond of nearly 16 years. Virgo’s friend James Malyon, reflecting on their friendship, emphasized Virgo’s charismatic personality and role as the life of the party.

In 2020, Virgo and Rosie relocated to Spain in pursuit of a better quality of life, hoping to alleviate Virgo’s long-standing neck injury. Virgo is survived by his children, Gary and Brook-Leah, from his previous marriages, leaving behind a legacy cherished by many in the snooker community and beyond.
