Ben Stokes broke a key rule while coaching cricket players and ended up with a severe black eye and facial injuries. The England cricket star shared a photo of his bruised eye and scratched face on Instagram, joking about the incident. The injuries occurred when a young player hit a ball towards Stokes while he was coaching at a Durham facility.
Stokes was promptly taken to the hospital where he reassured the young player who accidentally caused the injury. Durham coach Ryan Campbell highlighted the importance of never turning one’s back on the batter while coaching. Despite the mishap, Stokes maintained his good spirits and took responsibility for the accident.
The all-rounder is recovering from a groin injury and aims to return to action for Durham before England’s upcoming Test against Australia. Stokes plans to play several county championship matches leading up to the Test. He is committed to England until the 2027 Ashes series and is considering a coaching role post-retirement.
