“Greenland Crisis Not Resolved, Finnish President Cautions”

Date:

Finnish President Alexander Stubb has cautioned that the Greenland crisis is not resolved, despite US President Donald Trump’s statement ruling out the use of force to acquire the territory. Stubb acknowledged Trump’s efforts to de-escalate the situation after his speech at Davos but outlined three potential scenarios as reported by Euronews.

Stubb mentioned the “good” scenario of finding a diplomatic solution to enhance Arctic security through NATO. He also highlighted the “bad” outcome of an ongoing tariff war and the “ugly” possibility of military intervention.

Expressing relief at Trump’s assurance regarding non-military acquisition of Greenland, Stubb emphasized that the situation is not completely resolved. His remarks followed Trump’s recent speech at the World Economic Forum, where the US President made remarks linking Greenland to national and international security.

Despite expressing interest in negotiations for acquiring Greenland, Trump stated his reluctance to resort to military action. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, ahead of a meeting with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, maintained a firm stance on Greenland’s sovereignty, emphasizing it as a matter for Greenland and Denmark alone. Starmer criticized the use of tariffs to pressure allies, echoing the sentiments of other world leaders.
