“Call for Action on Canada Curling Team’s Conduct”

Date:

BBC co-commentator Steve Cram has urged Winter Olympic officials to address the conduct of the Canada curling team following their victory over Team GB with a score of 9-5.

The Brad Jacobs-led Canadian team has sparked controversy during the events in Milan and Cortina. A previous incident involving Canada’s Marc Kennedy engaging in a profanity-laced exchange with Swedish player Oskar Eriksson led to a public apology from the BBC.

Kennedy also faced allegations of improper stone handling during the match against Sweden, prompting World Curling to issue a statement clarifying the rules. Despite this, the BBC commentary team once again criticized the Canadians for their language.

During a break in the recent match, microphones picked up Canadian team members using offensive language within earshot of TV cameras, causing disappointment from Cram and fellow commentator Logan Gray.

Cram, known for his athletics commentary, emphasized the need for action regarding the Canadians’ behavior, with Gray referring to them as having “potty mouths.” This incident occurred as Canada held a 3-1 lead after the third end, a crucial moment in the match.

After losing to Canada, Team GB, led by skipper Mouat, faces a challenging path to the semi-finals. A previous defeat against Norway and the recent loss mean that victories against both Canada and the USA are necessary to secure a spot in the semi-final round.

Even a win against the USA may not be sufficient for Team GB to advance. Their fate now depends on favorable outcomes in other matches if they aspire to continue competing in the semi-finals this week.

The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, running from February 6-22, offers fans over 850 hours of live action on discovery+ via Prime Video. Viewers can access 24/7 Olympic coverage through the £3.99 discovery+ Entertainment subscription during the games.
