Tennis legend Bjorn Borg has revealed his battle with prostate cancer in his upcoming autobiography, as per reports from Sweden and Italy.
Scheduled for release on September 18, the book titled “Heartbeat” discloses Borg’s private struggle with the disease, which he had kept confidential from the public.
Collaborating with his wife Patricia, Borg’s autobiography will hit bookshelves in the USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Latin America, the Netherlands, and Italy, in addition to Sweden.
The book’s launch has been surrounded by secrecy, with Swedish publication Expressen reporting that it will not be shared with the media for review before its release. Furthermore, Borg is expected to limit his promotional interviews for the book.
Despite the efforts to keep the book under wraps, its early availability on platforms like Amazon in Italy has led to the news of Borg’s cancer diagnosis becoming known.
A dominant force in tennis during the 1970s, Borg clinched five Wimbledon titles and six French Open victories, cementing his status as one of the sport’s most beloved athletes.
Recognized for his elegant playing style, Borg is credited with captivating a new generation of fans to tennis during the rise of color television.
Gunilla Bergmark from Norstedts, the book publishers, expressed the significance of sharing Borg’s story, stating, “It feels like a significant and crucial responsibility to finally unveil Bjorn’s narrative. This long-awaited book is a testament to Patricia being the ideal person to pen his story.”
