Date:

Incredible live video footage captures the impact of strong winds in the UK as Storm Goretti sweeps through the region. The Met Office has issued a rare red warning for wind in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, cautioning about dangerous gales of up to 100mph that could pose a threat to life from flying debris. Webcam feeds show high waves along the south coast as the storm unfolds.

Various Met Office weather alerts for rain, snow, and ice are in effect across different parts of the UK as the storm transitions into wintry conditions in the Midlands and the north. Emergency alerts have been issued in the most vulnerable ‘red’ areas, prompting loud alarm notifications on mobile phones. The alerts provide critical information and safety guidelines for residents in the affected regions.

Storm Goretti, named by Meteo France, is projected to bring extremely strong gusts exceeding 100mph in the red warning zone. The Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, Neil Armstrong, warns of rapid wind escalation with prolonged violent gusts. Heavy snowfall is expected in Wales, the Midlands, and parts of northern England, leading to significant disruptions.

Snow accumulations of 10-15 cm are anticipated, with up to 20-30 cm possible in certain areas, particularly in Wales and the Peak District. An Amber warning has been issued for Thursday night into Friday morning, highlighting the heightened risk of disruption. Residents in the warned areas are advised to stay informed about the forecast and follow guidance from local authorities.
