Two young men caused a serious accident while racing each other at high speed, leaving a teenage girl with life-changing injuries, a court heard. Harrison Taylor, 19, and his older brother Henry, 21, were driving their gifted powerful cars, a Mercedes A200 and a BMW 135i, respectively, on the Sandbanks peninsula in Dorset during the early hours of Boxing Day in 2023.
Harrison lost control of his Mercedes, crashing into a gatepost of a mansion, followed by the BMW colliding with the Mercedes. The impact critically injured Mia Savage, a 17-year-old passenger in the Mercedes, who suffered multiple severe injuries, including a shattered left femur, fractured neck, broken arm, ribs, and internal bleeding.
After undergoing extensive surgery and weeks of recovery, Mia faced challenges such as losing a sports scholarship, missing school, and experiencing a decline in academic performance. Despite the significant impact on her life, the Taylor brothers received suspended sentences for causing serious injury by dangerous driving, along with a three-year driving ban.
The court revealed that the brothers, along with friends, were speeding on a residential road when the accident occurred. Mia, originally planning to ride with a friend, switched to Harrison’s car at the last minute. The brothers’ reckless driving led to the tragic incident, resulting in Mia’s long road to recovery and emotional trauma.
Although the judge criticized the brothers for their actions and the lack of accountability, he considered their age, lack of prior offenses, and guilty pleas in sentencing. The brothers’ irresponsibility and recklessness had a profound impact on Mia’s life, highlighting the devastating consequences of their actions.
