Formula One Cancels Bahrain and Saudi Grands Prix

Date:

Formula One is expected to call off the upcoming Grands Prix in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia next month due to the ongoing conflict in the region. The races were originally planned for April as part of the 2026 season, with the Bahrain GP scheduled for April 10-12 and the Saudi Arabian race in Jeddah the following weekend.

The decision to cancel both events comes in light of the conflict involving Iran, the USA, and Israel in the region, as reported by Sky Sports, reducing this season’s schedule from 24 races to 22. While no official statements have been released by F1 and the FIA yet, FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem mentioned on social media that they are closely monitoring the situation and prioritizing safety and well-being in their decision-making process.

Expressing deep sympathy for the affected communities, Ben Sulayem emphasized the importance of unity and safety in assessing future events for the FIA World Endurance Championship and the FIA Formula One World Championship. With the cancellation of both races, there will be a break in F1 action in April, with teams facing a five-week gap until the Miami GP in early May after the Japanese GP at the end of this month.

Currently, F1 activities are ongoing in Shanghai for the Chinese Grand Prix, where George Russell is set to start on pole for Saturday’s Sprint race. The Mercedes driver leads the early driver standings with 25 points, followed by teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli in second place. Reigning champion Lando Norris is in fifth position with ten points, yet to secure a win or podium finish this season.

Formula 1 enthusiasts can catch all the live action, including practice sessions, qualifiers, and races, through Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle, which offers substantial savings and includes access to around 100 TV channels, along with complimentary subscriptions to Netflix and Discovery+.
