Queen Elizabeth reportedly described Donald Trump as “very rude” during a private lunch in 2024, as detailed in a biography titled A Voyage Around the Queen by Craig Brown. The Queen’s observation came shortly after Trump’s visit to the UK, where she allegedly found his behavior disrespectful. Brown also claimed that the Queen was displeased with Trump’s habit of constantly looking over her shoulder during their interactions.
The biography further delved into the Queen’s opinions on Trump’s marriage, suggesting she believed there might be some arrangement between Trump and his wife, Melania, for their relationship to endure. Brown highlighted the Queen’s vast experience in hosting controversial foreign leaders over the years, including Trump, and hinted that she may have discreetly expressed disapproval upon their departures.
Trump’s initial meeting with the Queen in 2018, following his inauguration as the 45th US president, was marked by some protocol breaches and delays. Despite these issues, Trump later claimed that the Queen had enjoyed their time together. Subsequent state visits between the two nations were received more positively, although Trump faced criticism for breaching royal protocol by placing his hand on the Queen’s back during a toast.
Buckingham Palace has not officially responded to the claims made in Brown’s book, but previous sources from the Palace have praised Trump for his courteous and charming demeanor towards staff. Trump, in turn, has expressed admiration for the late Queen Elizabeth following her passing.
With King Charles now leading the Royal Family, relations between Trump and the monarchy seem to have remained friendly. During a US state visit in September 2025, King Charles lauded Trump’s efforts in resolving global conflicts, while Trump emphasized the special nature of the US-UK relationship.
