Amazon has announced the launch of its Alexa+ platform in the UK for Echo smart speaker owners. Alexa+ is an enhanced version of the popular voice assistant, offering a more conversational experience. The new features include personalized interactions based on preferences, routines, music, books, and even food preferences.
With Alexa+, users can receive tailored recommendations for films, recipes, and sports updates. The voice assistant can assist in creating shopping lists, tracking prices, sending delivery alerts, and providing product comparisons through online reviews. Moreover, controlling smart home devices is made simple with voice commands, allowing users to customize routines without the need to open the Alexa app.
The UK version of Alexa+ has been designed to understand British communication patterns better. Meryem Tom, Director of Alexa UK, emphasized the importance of cultural nuances in technology integration, such as regional expressions and humor.
To address privacy concerns, Amazon assures users that Alexa+ prioritizes privacy and security. The Alexa Privacy dashboard enables users to manage their interactions, review shared attachments, adjust voice recording storage settings, and more.
Early Access to Alexa+ is currently available for free, with subsequent access priced at £19.99 per month after the promotional period ends. Prime members will continue to receive free access. Amazon plans to gradually roll out Early Access to hundreds of thousands of customers in the UK in the coming weeks.
