Authorities in Shasta County, California, made a startling discovery while investigating a suspected illegal marijuana farm. Hidden on the property of a Make America Great Again (MAGA) activist, they uncovered a 100-foot tunnel and a secret bunker housing a cache of dangerous firearms and weapons, including a sawn-off shotgun.
The bunker, equipped with essential amenities like ventilation, drainage, and power, was not only used for growing marijuana but also contained a gym, armchair, and television. Additionally, a Bennington flag associated with Trump supporters during the January 6 riot was found hanging on the wall.
This alarming find, deemed a significant threat to public safety, was revealed after a search warrant was executed at the residence of 40-year-old Michael Jay Kamfolt in Anderson. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) uncovered a collection of illegal firearms, including three AR-15-style assault rifles, a sawn-off shotgun, and over 10,000 rounds of ammunition.
CHP Northern Division Chief John Pinoli emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that the hidden bunker and the large arsenal of illegal firearms posed a severe risk to public safety. Kamfolt, a vocal conservative activist and supporter of former President Donald Trump, was taken into custody on multiple weapons-related charges.
Among the items seized were 13 firearms, four body armor vests, and 30 high-capacity magazines, two of which had been reported stolen in the past. Kamfolt faces charges such as converting a firearm into a machine gun, manufacturing a ghost gun, and possession of stolen firearms and armor-penetrating ammunition.
Despite the shocking revelations, Kamfolt’s associate and county supervisor, Kevin Crye, expressed disbelief and support for his friend in a Facebook video, highlighting the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. The investigation stemmed from a tip-off received by the CHP in December, leading to a thorough month-long operation before the search was conducted.
