Ronnie O’Sullivan Achieves Record-Breaking 153-Point Snooker Break

Date:

Snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan has made history by achieving the highest break ever recorded in professional snooker, scoring an impressive 153 points against Ryan Day. This remarkable feat took place during the World Open in Yushan, China, where O’Sullivan showcased exceptional form, defeating Matthew Selt and Shaun Murphy to secure a spot in the quarter-finals.

Nicknamed ‘The Rocket,’ O’Sullivan set the new record in the opening frame against Day, surpassing the previous record of 148 held by Jamie Burnett. The 50-year-old executed a flawless 16-red clearance after being awarded a free ball, clearing the table with precision. Despite coming close to a total maximum of 155, O’Sullivan had to settle for the pink instead of aiming for the black due to a slight misjudgment on one shot.

In a display of skill and composure, O’Sullivan potted a remarkable black to reach 153, much to the delight of spectators worldwide. Although Day lost the frame, he acknowledged O’Sullivan’s achievement with applause. The historic 153 break by O’Sullivan has shattered Burnett’s previous record, marking a significant milestone in professional snooker history.

As O’Sullivan continues his impressive performance in the World Open, leading 4-0 against world No.36 Day in the best-of-nine match, he is on the brink of securing a spot in the semi-finals. This remarkable achievement comes after a somewhat disappointing start to the 2025/26 season for O’Sullivan, reaffirming his status as one of snooker’s greatest players.
