Forecasts indicate widespread downpours across Britain in the next 48 hours, prompting the issuance of a yellow weather warning for rain by the Met Office. Concerns of potential flooding, road spray, and significant travel disruptions have led to the warning, effective from 9am on Saturday until 6am the following day.
Residents in the warned regions are urged to assess their flood risk and develop a flood plan alongside assembling an emergency flood kit, as recommended by the Met Office. Additionally, individuals are encouraged to check road conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly to minimize delays.
While temperatures soared to 27C on Friday, meteorologists caution that the summery conditions will not persist through the weekend. Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Tom Crabtree anticipates 20-30 mm of rain to fall widely, with localized areas possibly experiencing 60-80 mm within a short timeframe. Strong gusty winds and potential thunderstorms are expected to accompany the rainfall from mid-Saturday onwards, heightening the risk of disruptions.
Southwest England, western Wales, and parts of the northeast are likely to experience strong winds exceeding 55 mph, though precise locations and timings are yet uncertain.
