The latest stage of scratchings for the Grand National has seen ten horses removed from contention, leaving a field of 34 for the upcoming race at Aintree. Since 2024, the field size for the Grand National has been capped at 34 horses, down from 40, giving fans a glimpse of the potential lineup for the race scheduled for April 11. In the recent scratching phase, a total of ten horses were withdrawn, with three pulled before and seven more removed now.
Among the notable withdrawals are horses trained by Dan Skelton, Olly Murphy, Mouse Morris, Gordon Elliott, Ben Pauling, and Anthony Honeyball. The final field of 34 includes prominent contenders like I Am Maximus and Grangeclare West, with expectations high for an exciting competition.
As the race approaches, it is possible that more changes will occur as some horses may opt to compete in the Irish National on April 6 instead. Welsh and Irish National winner Haiti Couleurs is a strong British hopeful, with trainer Rebecca Curtis expressing enthusiasm about his prospects at Aintree.
Curtis stated, “I’m excited to run him in the National now, hopefully, if everyone agrees. Where else do you go with him? That is his forte, National-type races, that’s where he’s done well. If he shows me that he’s fit and well in the next few weeks, there’s no reason not to go.”
