“Trump Determined to ‘Conquer’ Greenland Despite Talks”

Date:

Denmark’s foreign minister has stated that despite a recent high-stakes meeting, Donald Trump remains determined to ‘conquer’ Greenland, as no agreement was reached on US aspirations to acquire the territory.

The meeting, which included Denmark’s foreign minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Greenland’s foreign minister Vivian Motzfeldt, as well as US officials such as Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, failed to resolve the dispute over Greenland’s ownership. The US claims control of the territory is crucial for national security, leading to escalating tensions as European allies plan a joint military mission to Greenland in support of Denmark.

Following the meeting, Lars Lokke Rasmussen acknowledged the need for further discussions to find a mutual way forward, as attempts to sway the Trump administration’s stance had been unsuccessful. Trump’s interest in acquiring Greenland stems from its strategic location, valuable mineral resources, and the increased military presence of Russia and China in the region.

European nations have expressed concerns over Trump’s threats of a potential invasion of Greenland, particularly in light of recent US actions in Venezuela. Rasmussen emphasized that Trump’s desire to take over Greenland is not aligned with the interests of the kingdom.

In a separate development, the UK and US have initiated the evacuation of essential personnel from key military bases in the Middle East amid heightened tensions with Iran. Air raid preparations at the al-Udeid base in Qatar, utilized by British and American forces, have been activated in anticipation of potential strikes following President Trump’s warnings against Iranian actions.

Additionally, the UK has temporarily withdrawn its diplomats from Iran as a precautionary measure due to security concerns. The British Embassy in Tehran will operate remotely, with updated travel advice issued by the Foreign Office to reflect the consular changes.

Efforts to obtain comments from The White House on these matters are ongoing. For real-time updates, readers can follow the latest developments by accessing the live blog provided by the Mirror.
