Newly released video footage depicts a teenager who has been missing for over two weeks, last spotted on a bridge spanning a river. The authorities have shared a video clip they believe shows Thomas Medlin, a 15-year-old, on a pedestrian walkway on Friday, January 9, at 7:06 pm. According to the police in New York City, the investigation into Thomas’ disappearance has involved thorough scrutiny of videos and digital evidence.
Thomas reportedly left his residence in Long Island, New York, to meet an individual he had been communicating with online. It is speculated that the teenager planned to meet this person in Manhattan, necessitating the use of the Manhattan Bridge over the East River.
The footage reveals Thomas on the bridge on the day he was last seen by his family. Authorities highlighted that there was no sighting of the teenager leaving the bridge via any exits, and additional CCTV footage captured a splash in the water shortly after Thomas was observed.
A spokesperson from the Suffolk County Police Department mentioned that the last activity on Thomas’ cell phone was recorded on January 9 at 7:09 pm, with surveillance footage displaying a splash in the water at 7:10 pm. Despite examining multiple social media and online gaming profiles associated with Medlin, authorities have not found any connections to his disappearance.
The police did not provide any updates on locating Medlin but stated that there is no evidence of criminal activity. They assured that detectives have been in constant communication with the family and are collaborating with law enforcement partners to bring closure to the situation.
Thomas, hailing from St. James, a hamlet in Suffolk County, Long Island, vanished on January 9 after heading to Manhattan following school hours. The teenager was seen at Grand Central Station approximately two hours later. An earlier photo released by the police depicted the 15-year-old carrying a backpack and a large object while walking on what appeared to be a subway platform in New York City.
