“Tragic Shooting at Shooting School: Husband Kills Wife, Then Himself”

Date:

An inquest revealed that a husband, described as ‘jealous,’ violently confronted his wife amid suspicions of infidelity. Robert Jobson, 84, tragically ended the life of his wife Rosemary, 69, by shooting her twice at their residence in Thornton Curtis, North Lincolnshire, where they operated a shooting school. The couple, known for their representation of England in shooting competitions, were discovered deceased on July 14, 2023.

Prior to the fatal incident, Jobson had been taken into custody six days earlier following a report by his wife to the authorities, alleging assault. Subsequently, Mrs. Jobson was fatally shot by her husband as she exited a vehicle outside their home.

Following the shooting, Jobson took his own life in a shed adjacent to the property. The inquest detailed that the couple had initially met while engaged in hunting and horseback riding before establishing the shooting school.

On June 20, 2023, Rosemary contacted the police, expressing her intent to divorce Jobson and raising concerns regarding firearms on the premises. Guns were subsequently removed from their home three days later.

Humberside Police detained Jobson on July 8 but released him on bail the next day, with strict instructions not to approach or communicate with his wife. Jobson was reported to have struggled with his mental well-being and underwent psychiatric evaluations post his arrest.

During the inquiry at Cleethorpes Town Hall, it emerged that Jobson suspected his wife of engaging in an affair with their mutual friend, Peter Hrynyk, with whom she had vacationed. Hrynyk, however, clarified during the investigation that their relationship was purely platonic.

Rosemary had temporarily stayed with Hrynyk but returned to their residence to collect belongings. The post-mortem examination identified gunshot wounds to her head and neck as the cause of death.

Jobson succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his neck. Coroner Jayne Wilkes characterized the case as “particularly shocking,” attributing Rose’s demise to deliberate and intentional actions by her husband, labeling it an unlawful killing with elements of premeditation.

Paula O’Donnell, Rosemary’s daughter from a previous marriage, lamented the loss of her mother, emphasizing her kind-hearted and selfless nature. She expressed deep sorrow and longing for her mother’s presence.
