A tragic incident at a water park in Brazil has resulted in the death of a young lifeguard as he performed his duties, according to local authorities. The victim, identified as Guilherme da Guerra Domingos, 24, lost his life after becoming trapped underwater while attempting to retrieve a tourist’s ring in a pool at Wet’n Wild water park in Itupeva.
The unfortunate event occurred at a specific attraction within the park known as Water Bomb. Colleagues of Guilherme raised the alarm when he failed to resurface after entering the pool. Prompt action was taken by other lifeguards who pulled him out and administered initial aid. Emergency medical teams from the local health department were swiftly summoned to the scene.
Despite efforts to save him, Guilherme was later pronounced dead at Nossa Senhora Aparecida Municipal Hospital. Reports indicate that he had been a valued employee at the water park for over two years, having been promoted to a leadership role just a few months prior to the incident.
In response to the tragedy, Wet’n Wild clarified that the Water Bomb attraction does not feature a bottom drain. The company detailed that its hydraulic system utilizes side drains positioned away from the water slide exit and visitor areas. City officials confirmed that the park is fully compliant with all necessary regulations and safety standards.
Wet’n Wild announced the temporary closure of the park via social media and assured the public of their full support for Guilherme’s family. The company pledged to cooperate with ongoing investigations by the authorities. Following necessary procedures, Guilherme’s body was taken to the Forensic Medical Institute in Jundiaí for examination before being laid to rest in Bragança Paulista.
