A heartless individual who impersonated a traffic lawyer on social media has been sentenced to prison for causing a fatal road accident. Leigh Sutherland was driving a Ford Mondeo with faulty brakes and speeding on the Condorrat Ring Road in Lanarkshire, Scotland when he collided with a Peugeot 108 driven by Margaret Allan, resulting in her death. Despite the crash injuring a young passenger as well, Sutherland callously tried to shift blame onto the victim at the scene.
Following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow, Sutherland was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving and sentenced to nine years in prison, along with a 13-year driving ban. Known for his TikTok presence where he posed as a defense lawyer and engaged in peculiar content, Sutherland’s deceitful actions have now led to a significant legal consequence.
The investigation revealed that the car Sutherland was driving had a malfunctioning anti-lock braking system and an unsecured battery, contributing to the severity of the crash. Witnesses reported Sutherland was speeding above the limit, with the prosecution emphasizing that his driving was not merely an error but a deliberate act of recklessness.
Despite being on bail during the trial, Sutherland was remanded in custody by Judge Tom Hughes for sentencing after reports were prepared. This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of irresponsible and dangerous driving behavior.
