An Garda Síochána stated that following a report of the suspicious luggage, they took precautionary measures by evacuating Terminal 2 and limiting airport access. The luggage was eventually determined safe and removed without affecting airport operations.
The incident coincides with disruptions at various European airports due to a suspected cyberattack on Collins Aerospace, a check-in and boarding system provider for multiple airlines. Passengers may face delays as the issue is being addressed by the third-party supplier, impacting operations at airports like Heathrow and Brussels.
Heathrow Airport acknowledged the technical problem and advised passengers to verify their flight status before heading to the airport, with additional staff on hand to assist and minimize disruptions. In Brussels, where cancellations have reached 14 flights, departures are experiencing delays of up to an hour due to the ongoing system issues.
