“DWP Reveals Winter Fuel Payment Details”

Date:

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has provided details on the exact amount individuals will receive for the Winter Fuel Payment this year. Eligible recipients can expect to receive between £100 and £300 in their bank accounts during November and December. This benefit is specifically for pensioners born before September 22, 1959.

If an individual’s earnings surpass £35,000, they will need to repay the Winter Fuel Payment through the tax system unless they choose to opt out. The income eligibility criteria for this payment are determined on a per-person basis. For instance, if one partner earns £30,000 annually while the other earns £40,000, one person will retain their share of the Winter Fuel Payment, while the other will repay it.

The amount received depends on the recipient’s age during the qualifying week and whether they or someone they live with claim benefits. Individuals aged 80 or above, or those living with someone in that age bracket, generally qualify for the higher payment amount. The qualifying week for this winter is set between September 15 and 21, 2025.

Those living alone or with no eligible individuals for the Winter Fuel Payment will receive specific payment amounts based on their circumstances. The payment structure varies for those claiming Pension Credit, Universal Credit, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Income Support, or residing in a care home.

This information is aimed at assisting individuals in understanding and preparing for the Winter Fuel Payment scheme.
