“Nigel Farage Violates MPs’ Code of Conduct 17 Times”

Date:

Nigel Farage has been found to violate the MPs’ code of conduct on 17 occasions due to delays in registering financial interests. The leader of Reform, also known as “Nine Jobs Nigel,” has faced criticism for engaging in lucrative side projects alongside his parliamentary salary.

In a recent report, Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, Daniel Greenberg, disclosed multiple instances where Farage failed to register interests within the stipulated 28-day timeframe. Following a public complaint, an investigation was initiated, revealing the breaches in Rule 5 of the Code of Conduct.

Greenberg attributed the delays to administrative challenges, noting that Farage has accepted responsibility and expressed regret for the oversights. Despite the significant number of breaches, Greenberg opted for a rectification process instead of escalating the matter to the Committee on Standards.

Farage defended himself by highlighting the complexity of his varied roles, including TV presenting and private business ventures, predating his political career. He emphasized his commitment to transparency while acknowledging the administrative errors made by his team.

During a meeting with Greenberg, Farage clarified that his earnings were primarily derived from his personal brand and diverse interests, rather than his role as an MP. The analysis of Farage’s financial interests indicates substantial income from travel perks and external engagements, with notable earnings from media appearances and ambassadorial roles.

The Labour Party criticized Farage for prioritizing personal gains over his constituents’ interests, calling for stricter regulations on MPs’ secondary occupations to ensure a focus on public service.
