Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Son Dies Amid Hospital Neglect

Date:

Celebrated writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has accused a hospital of neglecting her one-year-old son, who passed away after a brief illness. Adichie’s representatives confirmed the tragic loss of her son, Nkanu Nnamdi, and expressed the deep devastation felt by Adichie and her partner, Dr. Ivara Esege.

In a statement, Adichie attributed her son’s death to Euracare Hospital in Lagos, Nigeria, where he was admitted and subsequently passed away on January 6. She claimed that errors occurred during his treatment, including improper monitoring after receiving a sedative.

According to Adichie, her son was given an excessive dose of propofol, causing him to require resuscitation. Despite efforts to save him, the child later succumbed to seizures and a cardiac arrest.

Euracare Hospital has refuted allegations of negligence, expressing condolences for the family’s loss and emphasizing their commitment to providing high-quality medical care. The hospital stated that they followed established protocols and collaborated with external medical teams to support the patient.

The hospital also mentioned that they have initiated an investigation to ensure compliance with clinical standards. They reiterated their support for the grieving family and their dedication to transparency and patient safety throughout the process.
