Britons traveling to and from Cyprus are encountering significant disruptions today, as 30 flights have been canceled due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. Paphos International Airport had a temporary closure yesterday after an unidentified drone was detected in its restricted airspace. While the airport has since reopened, several UK-bound flights are still facing interruptions, with five cancellations reported for today.
Information from the airport’s official website indicates that an easyJet flight scheduled to arrive from London-Gatwick at 2 pm and its return flight at 3 pm have been canceled. Additionally, a Ryanair flight from London-Stansted later today is currently operational, but passengers are advised to monitor updates through the airline’s app.
Two Ryanair flights from Amman to Paphos and vice versa have been canceled for tonight, reflecting a broader trend of numerous flight cancellations among major airlines in Amman.
At Larnaca International Airport, 25 flights have been canceled today, including six by easyJet, comprising three arrivals and three departures from destinations like London-Gatwick and Liverpool.
British Airways (BA) has also canceled flights between London-Heathrow and London-Gatwick to Larnaca, along with return flights. Some Wizz Air services from Larnaca are still operating, although flights to destinations such as Tel Aviv are currently grounded.
BA announced a flexible customer booking policy, offering free flight changes or refunds for travel between London Heathrow and various Middle Eastern destinations. The airline advises passengers to check their flight status on BA.com for the latest updates before heading to the airport.
EasyJet reassured customers of efforts to minimize disruptions, providing rebooking options on other airlines, refunds, and necessary accommodations. Passengers are encouraged to monitor the flight tracker for updates, while Ryanair is yet to comment on the situation.
Despite the ongoing disruptions, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has not issued travel advisories against visiting Cyprus. Travelers are advised to stay informed by regularly checking for updates on the official websites of Paphos and Larnaca airports.
