“Beware Bag Size Rules: Tips for Navigating Budget Airline Allowances”

Date:

Budget airlines offer affordable travel options, but passengers often face challenges with cabin baggage allowances. It’s not uncommon to encounter the bag sizer at boarding, where even slight oversize can lead to hefty fees.

Cabin bag size restrictions vary widely among airlines, making it crucial to stay updated as rules may change frequently. To avoid surprises at the gate, it is advisable to check the airline’s official website before traveling.

Purchasing extra baggage in advance during ticket booking is more cost-effective than paying for excess weight at the airport. Therefore, it is essential to pack realistically and within the specified limits.

Here’s a breakdown of individual airline policies:

For Ryanair passengers, recent updates allow for a slightly larger free underseat bag, now permitted at 40 x 30 x 20 cm. While there is no specific weight limit for these bags, passengers must be able to carry them comfortably.

Additionally, passengers can opt for a second cabin bag measuring up to 55 x 40 x 20 cm and weighing up to 10KG for an extra fee. Checked baggage options range from 10 to 23KG, with prices varying by route. The maximum size for checked bags is 80 x 120 x 120cm per item.

EasyJet closely monitors onboard bag sizes, providing orange bag sizers at airports for reference. Ticket prices include a small underseat cabin bag of up to 45 x 36 x 20 cm and 15KG. Passengers can add a second cabin bag for a fee, along with up to three checked bags of various weights and dimensions.

Jet2 offers similar cabin baggage allowances for both package holiday and flight-only customers, including a small under-seat bag and a 10KG hand luggage piece. Package holiday customers receive 22KG of checked baggage, while flight-only travelers can add this service for an additional cost.

British Airways features various ticket types with different baggage allowances. Basic economy fares typically include a small bag and a cabin bag, with specific size limits for each. Checked bag allowances vary by route and class, with economy fares offering a 23KG piece of hold luggage.

TUI’s flight-only passengers receive a 10KG piece of hand luggage and a small personal item included in the price. Checked bags can be purchased during booking, with package holiday customers receiving up to 20KG of checked baggage. TUI BLUE and cruise passengers may have higher weight allowances, depending on their booking.
