Shoppers witnessed a dramatic scene as armed police entered a Tesco store in response to reports of an individual potentially carrying a weapon. The incident unfolded at Tesco Extra in the Corstorphine area of Edinburgh on Friday night, resulting in a significant police presence captured in images from the scene.
Multiple officers, including members of a specialized armed response unit, were observed at the location alongside parked police vehicles. The authorities were summoned to the store on Meadow Place Road just after 4 pm following concerns about a woman allegedly possessing a weapon, as indicated by the Daily Record.
Subsequently, a 20-year-old woman was taken into custody and charged in connection with the event, according to a police spokesperson. It was confirmed by Police Scotland that armed response officers were dispatched as a precautionary measure. The woman has since been released and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
A spokesperson detailed, “Around 4.10 pm on Friday, January 9, we received a report regarding a person potentially armed at Meadow Place Road, Edinburgh. Emergency services responded, leading to the arrest and charge of a 20-year-old woman, who was later released under an undertaking to attend court at a future date.”
